Delays in launches and returns have become pretty commonplace as well. So ... the issue you raise isn't really big news. Your points about the educational system are valid, of course, but they are going to be well down the list of priorities by news organizations because of the economic woes and the Presidential campaign. You have to set priorities somewhere, and that's never easy. Yes, I'd rather see a story on the space shuttle than Angelina's twins, but there probably should be room for both.
